Mere Christianity
★★★★★
Wow! I am relatively new to reading and I had rated some of the first books I read as five stars on my social media pages like Goodreads, but as a consequence of reading this book I have come to understand what a true five-star book is. So I am lowering most of the others to four.
I picked up this book because I had seen so many great quotes from it. I'm glad I did. It has been a great eye-opener for me. Many times when people are introduced to Christianity they are thrown right into the doctrinal differences between denominations that are to be learned much later in their walk, as I was. This book did a great job of helping me understand the roots the way I should have been after accepting Christ into my life.
C.S. Lewis does a great job of using examples to explain basic parts of Christianity in a way that helped me understand them. Many times in my Christian walk I have caught myself being confused how some things worked, but many of the illustrations in this book connected what I needed to understand those parts of God. I found myself shaking my head in shear amazement many times in this book at just how well the examples helped me understand things.
I can easily say that I would recommend this to ANY and ALL Christians. It is soul-refreshing to look at fundamentals of Christianity in such a logical way. There is a reason so many Christians have looked up to C. S. Lewis' work and that this book is such a classic.
I would also recommend this book to any unbeliever as well. It helps to know Christianity at its core to best help you decide what you believe. Mere Christianity will give you a fair look into Christianity from the floor up, and it let's you know what the appeal is in following Christ.
In all I believe I will be hard pressed to find a better Christian Non-fiction short of the Bible.
